May 14, 2002 (Austin/Dallas, TX) North America's number-one consumer-electronics retailer Best Buy Co., Inc. and online gaming leader GameSpy Industries are inviting all Los Angeles-area gamers and attendees of the upcoming Electronic Entertainment Expo trade show to compete against each other in a tournament based on the new Activision PC game, Soldier of Fortune 2: Double Helix.

The tournament will be held from May 22 through May 24 in the SubstanceTV Dome at the "Promised Lot," on the corner of Pico and Figueroa, directly across the street from the Los Angeles Convention Center.

In the preliminary rounds, which will be held from 12 noon to 6pm on Wednesday, May 22, and Thursday, May 23, contestants will play against other players in free-for-all matches to establish their qualifying scores. Players with the top 16 scores will advance to the elimination-based tournament finals, which will start at 4pm on Friday, May 24. Officials from GameSpy will monitor and record the tournament play.

The finals promise to be a spectacular event, with massive projection and sound systems displaying the head-to-head matches to all viewers. Drinks and food will be available to all who come to witness the excitement.

The Soldier of Fortune 2 tournament will be played on top-of-the-line Alienware PC systems, driven by AMD processors, and equipped with new graphics hardware powered by the Matrox Parhelia-512 graphics chipset, displayed on Viewsonic monitors with UPS back-up provided by CyberPower.

The top winner of the tournament will receive a fully-loaded Alienware PC, a new graphics card from Matrox, gift certificates for Best Buy, and other prizes in a package valued at over $3,000.

Entrants must be 18 or over to participate. Contestants will be able to sign up at the Promised Lot for a limited number of qualifying time slots in advance, and other qualifying slots will be given to contestants who wait in line at the SubstanceTV Dome.
