COTTONMOUTH, TEXAS
Based in the fictional town of "cottonmouth, texas" this short film is actually collection of four individual "snapshots" into the life of "Chate", an uninspired American thirty-something who seems lost in a mindless quagmire of television, pornography, pot, and prejudiced passivity. Written and performed by Dallas spoken word artist Jeffrey Liles, "cottonmouth, texas" is a meditative study in southern slack. Portland filmmaker Chel White directs with a keen nuance of geography, an almost surreal sense of junk imagery- quite an achievement given the format. All four of the short stories were taken from the cottonmouth, texas albums "anti-social butterfly", "white trash receptacle", and "The Right to Remain Silent".
