Michael
Lee Jackson - General Counsel
Michael Lee Jackson has been practicing law for a diverse group of clients from California to Europe since 1989. Michael's practice has focused in recent years on general corporate work, transactional law, intellectual property, entertainment and civil litigation. Michael's legal experience started when civil rights attorney, William M. Kunstler, convinced the meandering young Michael to go to law school and clerk in New York City with Kunstler. Michael did just that, and has not had a moment to look back since. After law school, Michael spent his first eight years of practicing law working for two prestigious Buffalo, New York commercial law firms, while continuing to work with Kunstler. Since 1998, Michael has been running his own law practice. In 1998, Michael received the Thurgood Marshall Award for pro-bono representation of an indigent defendant in a death-penalty case.
In addition to practicing law, Michael has co-authored two books, Your Father's Not Coming Home Anymore (with Jessica Jackson), Putnam's, 1981; and Doing Drugs (with Bruce Jackson), St. Martin's Press, 1983.
Michael is also an active musician, having toured around the world extensively with his own group, Animal Planet, with whom he has recorded three CDs, and as temporary lead guitarist with the pop group, 10,000 Maniacs. Jackson has most recently teamed up for a musical project with Emerson Lake and Palmer bassist/vocalist, Greg Lake.
Michael received his Bachelor's degree in English, Cum Laude, from the State University of New York at Buffalo in 1985, and earned his Juris Doctor degree from The State University of New York at Buffalo Law School in 1989.
Michael lives with his dog and cat in Buffalo, New York.
