Jim
Bloom - CMO/Executive Producer
In
1998, Jim Bloom co-founded Gathering of Developers, drawing on his wealth of
experience to create revolutionary marketing campaigns that helped quickly
propel the Gathering to the ranks of major game publishers. By developing a
unique brand identity that gained significant mind share in the gaming
community, Jim enjoyed unparalleled success, spearheading the launches of
several Top 10 titles.
As the Gathering's Vice President of Marketing and Creative Services, he
assembled and managed a solid team of professionals covering all aspects of
marketing, including PR, brand management, database development and special
event planning.
Jim established his reputation in marketing while at the Richards Group, a
$360-million full service agency based in Dallas, Texas. Instrumental in
shifting consumer perception of Continental Airlines from 'worst-to-first',
Jim's efforts helped the airline garner J.D. Powers and Associates' Award
for Consumer Satisfaction in 1996 and '97 and a Gold Effie for the Richards
Group for developing and executing one of the most effective marketing
campaigns of the year.
Jim continued his career at Pyro Brand Development, where he spearheaded
efforts to launch the first-ever large-scale U.S. brand campaign for Dr.
Martens, with a combination of national print and television ads and a
cutting-edge Web site targeting the brand's core consumer.
Pyro's status as the brand development agency of choice for many in the
gaming industry gave Jim the opportunity to contribute to the launches of
such titles as QUAKE (shareware), QUAKE (full version), QUAKE II, QUAKE
Mission Packs 1 and 2, Hexen II, Duke Nukem Plutonium Pack, Duke Nukem
Atomic Edition, the id Anthology, Hellfire (Diablo Expansion Pack), and DOOM
for PSX.
Jim earned his B.S. in Journalism from Texas A&M University in 1990. He
lives with his wife and son in Rockwall, Texas.
